22.1 Groundwater allocation announcements
Supporting information
The volume reported (48,343 ML) represents the volume of groundwater allocated under water licences and as a result of managed aquifer recharge in the Adelaide region during the 2012–13 year. The volume of groundwater allocated, itemised by management area and purpose, is shown in the following table.
Management area | Allocation purpose | Allocation quantity (ML) |

Groundwater allocations are renewed each reporting period where the full allocation volume detailed by the user's licence is available for the user to extract.
Recharged water is allocated based on the volume injected as part of managed aquifer recharge (MAR). A portion of the volume of water injected in the prior recharge period is allocated for reuse and is called a 'recharged water credit'. The recharged water credit volume may also depend on the quality of the water injected.
Quantification approach
Data source
Water Information and Licence Management Administration (WILMA) database.
Provided by
South Australian Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources.
Method
Groundwater allocations for the 2012–13 year were extracted from the WILMA database.
Assumptions, limitations, caveats and approximations
The licence purpose information for the various groundwater resource areas reflects the purpose of the licence when issued or possibly when adjusted.
