6.1 Groundwater allocation remaining

The volume reported in the water accounting statements for the groundwater allocation remaining is zero.
The groundwater allocation remaining corresponds to the volume of water allocation that can be carried over between water years. The Water Sharing Plan for the Murrumbidgee Unregulated and Alluvial Water Sources 2012 commenced on 4 October 2012. The water sharing plan details the rules for access licences with share components, which are recognised as a water liability in the National Water Account. Prior to the 2012–13 year, no such water liabilities were recognised in the Canberra region, therefore the opening balance reported is zero.
While carryover of unused groundwater allocation is allowed for access licence holders, due to limited data availability the carryover volume could not be quantified. Therefore, for the purposes of the National Water Account, the closing balance for the groundwater allocation remaining was calculated as shown in the following table and is zero.
