35.1 Trade of surface water entitlement within region

The volumetric value for the line item for the 2012–13 year was 961,334 ML. The line item includes information on intra-regional surface water entitlement trade (permanent water trade) within the Murray–Darling Basin (MDB) region.  The following table presents breakdown information for the line item value on a sustainable diversion limit area basis.

The volumes provided in the above table include trading volumes related to regulated (including supplementary entitlements) and unregulated systems for which information was available. Information on tagging of entitlements is not included in this line item. Movement of water associated with tagging of entitlements is included in line item 37.1 Surface water allocation trade within region. 

(1) Murray–Darling Basin Authority: water audit monitoring (WAM) data received from New South Wales (24 March 2014), Queensland (5 February 2014), South Australia (17 March 2014), and Victoria (14 February 2014), and stored in the HYDRO database; (2) Environmental and Sustainable Development Directorate of the ACT Government: entitlement database; and (3) National Water Commission's water trading data for the 2012–13 year.

WAM-supplied data were obtained from water trade registers.

In general all trade was occurring within sustainable diversion limit areas that are predominantly regulated or supplemented. However, in Queensland trade in both regulated (supplemented) and unregulated (unsupplemented) systems occurred.
