5.1 Surface water allocation remaining

Supporting information

The volume recognised in the water accounting statements (20,262 ML) represents the volume of surface water allocation remaining for individual user licence entitlements at the end of the 2012–13 year. 

The Department of Water administers approximately 100 separate licences in this category held by individual licensees. Licences primarily relate to water sourced from the main Ord River channel, upper Ord River, Dunham River and King River for the agricultural and mining sectors.

Generally, the water management year for individual users commences on the date the licence is issued. Consequently, there are a high number of individual water users whose licence anniversary falls outside the standard water year (1 July–30 June). As a result, the allocation remaining on 30 June 2013 is relatively high (more than half the allocation announcement).
