6.1 Groundwater allocation remaining

Supporting information

The volume recognised in the water accounting statements (1,315 ML) represents the volume of groundwater allocation remaining for individual user licence entitlements at the end of the 2012–13 year.

The Department of Water administers approximately 40 separate licences in this category held by individual licensees. Licences primarily relate to water sourced from the Canning–Kimberley groundwater area for the mining and commercial sectors.

Generally, the water management year for individual users commences on the date the licence is issued. Consequently, there are a high number of individual water users whose licence anniversary falls outside the standard water year (1 July–30 June). As a result, the allocation remaining on 30 June 2013 is relatively high (more than 10% of the allocation announcement).
