Perth
18.12 Entitled extraction of allocated groundwater to urban water system
Supporting information
This line item volume (139,622 ML) represents the total groundwater extracted for urban water supply in the Perth region during the 2012–13 year.
Total volume of water extracted from each groundwater source for the urban water system during the 2012–13 year is given in the following table.

Groundwater made up 43% of the inflows to the urban water supply system during the 2012–13 year; last year the contribution of groundwater was 157,789 ML (approximately 50% of the urban water supply).

Method
Inflow of groundwater into the urban water system is the total volume of groundwater extracted from the groundwater sources (bore fields) within the Perth region. Total water extracted is based on measured data collected at each source site using a cumulative water meter.
Assumptions, limitations, caveats and approximations
Uncertainty information
Expected error for water meters is +/– 5%.
The Department of Water requires that all water meters, when tested under in situ conditions, must be within 5% accuracy across the full flow rate range (Department of Water 2009c).
