Tropical Low 11U (pre-Severe Tropical Cyclone Dingani)

Summary

Tropical low 11U formed near the border of the Australian Area of Responsibility (AOR) on 3 February and moved westwards towards the Cocos Islands. Public Advices that warned of the risk the low may develop into a tropical cyclone close to the islands were issued. Once the low moved east of the Cocos Islands the public Advices were cancelled. The low was not in a favourable environment for development and remained weak as it turned to the southwest. Tropical Low 11U then moved southwest and intensified slightly as it approached 90oE. Gales had developed in the southern quadrants by 0000 UTC 9 February. Once the low crossed into La Reunion's AOR it was named Dingani. It then became an intense tropical cyclone over the central Indian Ocean eventually weakening on 14 February.
