Summary

A tropical low developed to the northwest of the Cocos (Keeling) Islands during an active phase of the Madden-Julian Oscillation. The low moved east southeast and gradually became more organised. Gales were observed in the southwest quadrant during 9 April but the low never attained tropical cyclone strength. The low passed to the north of Cocos Islands late on 9 April and had little impact on the islands. The low weakened over the ocean and had no impact on mainland Australia.
