Summary
Tropical Cyclone Hadi was a Coral Sea event that briefly reached category 1 intensity before moving away from the coast.
A tropical low was identified on 7 March well to the east north-east of Cairns in the Coral Sea. The low tracked to the southwest but development was hampered by ongoing strong wind shear. A strong east southeasterly flow to the south. Deep convection remained largely disorganised and constrained south of the centre, However, scatterometry showed gales extending more than half-way around the centre early on 10 March signifying that tropical cyclone intensity had been reached. This was to be short-lived however as scatterometry late on 10 March indicated gales confined south of the centre.
The system then tracked to the northeast and deep convection weakened. The strong winds south of the centre weakened but an increase in the monsoon flow to the north maintained strong winds close to the centre despite the ongoing disorganised nature of deep convection.
There were no known impacts from Hadi.
