Summary
A monsoon low developed west of Darwin and reached cyclone intensity in the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf on 19 January. Hector crossed the east Kimberley coast north of Wyndham and weakened to a rain-bearing depression causing heavy rain and considerable flooding over the Kimberley. At the time flooding on the Fitzroy River was estimated as a one in 200 year event. The bridge at the Willare crossing was significantly damaged.
