  • Change in net water asset is the difference between closing and opening net water assets for 2009–10.
  • Line item 7.1 Interbasin claim on water: remaining (67,366 ML) is the effective carryover volume following interbasin claims on water.
  • Line item 8.1.2.2 Allocation on regulated flows remaining – high-security, individual irrigator holder (937 ML) is the effective carryover volume of allocation remaining for high-reliability water shares in the Bacchus Marsh Irrigation District and Werribee Irrigation District within the Melbourne region.
  • Line item 8.1.7 Allocation on regulated flows remaining – environmental water access entitlement (287 ML) is the effective carryover volume in environmental water access entitlement for the Bunyip catchment.
  • Line item 8.1.9.6 Allocation on regulated flows remaining – environmental purpose is the effective carryover of water for environmental purpose

Interpretation of inputs for total water assets on 30 June 2010 shown in the above table is provided below:

  • Line item 1.1 Storage: entitlement system (381,507 ML) is the volume of water held in storage reservoirs on 30 June 2010.
  • Line item 2.1 Water table aquifer (21,873 ML) is the volume of water held in water table aquifers in managed groundwater areas estimated for 30 June 2010.
  • Line item 2.2 Underlying aquifer (16,565 ML) is the volume of water held in underlying aquifers in managed groundwater areas estimated for 30 June 2010.
  • Line item 5.2 Urban wastewater system (24,709 ML) is the volume of wastewater held in storage in 30 June 2010.
  • Line item 5.3 Urban recycled water supply system (735 ML) is the volume of recycled water held in storage in 30 June 2010.
  • Non-physical water assets (224,566 ML) disclose the amount of water held by Melbourne region outside of the physical boundaries on 30 June 2010.
  • Of the total water assets that could be quantified, there was 669,955 ML available in the Melbourne region at 30 June 2010, an increase of 146,674 ML from 01 July 2009.
