Water Regulations 2008 - Persons and Sites

Schedules Background

On 9 July 2009, the Governor-General amended the Water Regulations so that Schedule 2 Persons and Schedule 4 Commercially Sensitive Sites were removed from the Regulations. These schedules are replaced by new documents which can be found on this site under the titles Persons and Classes of Persons (70Kb - PDF) and Commercially Sensitive Sites (77Kb - PDF) respectively.

The Regulations amendment allows us to update both the persons and site lists more easily and makes the latest versions available from this website.

Does this affect my organisation?

The amendment does not affect the operation of the Water Regulations or your organisation's requirements in the Regulations.

The amendment simply alters the way we manage any future changes to the lists of persons and sites.

Why was the amendment needed?

Under previous legislative arrangements, the Bureau was required to go through a lengthy process to amend the schedules to the Regulations. This proved to be inefficient because of the time it took to reflect any updates in the instrument. Consequently, Schedule 2 in particular was continually out of date as organisations changed their names, merged, or split apart.

This situation created administrative and regulatory complications for both the Bureau and the organisations involved. The amendment helps us to better carry out our functions under the Water Act 2007 by referring to lists which we can update when required.

Lists of organisations required to give water information

Persons required to give water information to the Bureau are listed in the new document titled Persons and Classes of Persons.

We will update the document at least every six months and any proposed changes will be listed on our register (122Kb - PDF) which you can view at any time.

List of commercially sensitive sites

Commercially sensitive sites are listed in the new document titled Commercially Sensitive Sites.

We intend to update the document at least every six moths and any changes will be listed on our register (PDF) which you can view at any time.
