Adelaide
17.2 River outflow from the region
Supporting information
The volume reported (100,442 ML) represents streamflow out of the Adelaide region into the ocean during the 2012–13 year. The following table presents measured streamflow at the most downstream station along the river, itemised by streamflow gauge. This is assumed to equal the volume of outflow to sea out of the Adelaide region.

Map showing location of gauging stations used to measure streamflow to sea in the Adelaide region during the 2012–13 year
Quantification approach
Data source
Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges Water Data website (Water Data Services 2014), WaterConnect website (Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources 2013).
Provided by
Bureau of Meteorology.
Method
Streamflow data were obtained from the following sources:
- Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges Water Data website
- Water Data Services website.
The total flow volume was obtained by summing the 2012–13 year streamflow from gauging stations on most major rivers in the Adelaide region. Each gauging station monitors stream height, which is converted to a flow volume using a rating table.
Assumptions, limitations, caveats and approximations
- Streamflow data were not available for all major rivers. The Myponga River is the most significant omission; it is not measured downstream of the Myponga Reservoir.
- The rating table used to obtain the flow volume from the measured water level is assumed to hold for the full range of the measured water level.
Uncertainty information
Comparative year
The comparative year volume for line item 17.2 River outflow from region was restated in the water accounting statements from the 2012 Account due to a change in presentation. Please refer to Restatement of comparative year information in the 'Water accounting policies' for more information.
