14.2 Surface water flow out of region

Supporting information

This line item refers to the volume of water that left the Canberra region during 2009-10.

Quantification approach

224,093 ML of surface water flow out of the region.

Data source

ACT Government Department of Environment, Climate Change, Energy and Water: Environment Protection, Water Resources data archive.

Data provider

ACT Government Department of Environment, Climate Change, Energy and Water.

Method

The annual flow data for streamflow monitoring site Murrumbidgee River at Halls Crossing (Site ID 410777) was provided by the ACT Government Department of Environment, Climate Change, Energy and Water. Streamflow height was monitored at this site and converted to a flow volume using a rating table. The daily flow from this site during the 2009–10 reporting year was used to calculate the annual streamflow.

Uncertainty

Ungraded.

Assumptions, approximations and caveats/limitations

  • The stream gauging site 410777 is located just outside the Canberra region boundary. Since the distance between the boundary and the site is short, it was assumed that minimal run-off was generated between the catchment boundary and the monitoring site.
