Method

The volume for this line item was derived by subtracting the total volume of water returned to the sewers from the total water supplied for urban water use.

The total volume reported in this line item is estimated data using measured values retrieved from the ActewAGL Water Data Warehouse. The calculated volume of potable water applied to landscape was calculated as the difference between the system inflows (volume of surface water sourced and ingress of stormwater) and the system outflows (treated wastewater discharged to surface water, potable water discharged to surface water from urban water supply system, background leakage from the potable water supply system, recycled water used for irrigation, and the losses from Lower Molonglo Water Quality Control Centre [LMWQCC]).

The volume of outdoor garden use for the Canberra region was calculated as shown in the following table.

Assumptions, approximations and caveats/limitations

• Losses from LMWQCC are not actually measured, and therefore it has been assumed that the total losses from LMWQCC equal the total inflow to the plant, minus the discharge to surface water, minus the supply to irrigation.
• This line item does not account for losses from Queanbeyan or Fyshwick Wastewater Treatment Plant’s.
• This method was derived using professional judgement from ActewAGL.
