Quantification approach

Data source

New South Wales Office of Water – water sharing plans as detailed in the table ‘Surface water diversion of riparian right within region’.

NSW Office of Water – Catchment and Climate Modelling: estimates of basic rights for valleys that did not have a watering share plan in place for 2009–10.

Data provider

Murray–Darling Basin Authority.

Method

Diversion volumes are based on the value of the total volumetric basic landholder right as stipulated in the water sharing plan at commencement of the plan or as estimates supplied by NSW Office of Water – Catchment and Climate Modelling where applicable.

Uncertainty

The uncertainty is ungraded.

Approximations, assumptions, caveats/limitations

  • For New South Wales, no information on the diversion of riparian right water was available. The diversion is estimated to be equal to the total riparian volumetric right as stipulated in the various water sharing plans on commencement of the plans or equal to the total riparian volumetric right as estimated by NSW Office of Water – Catchment and Climate Modelling where applicable.
