South Australia data includes allocation announcements for all other purposes (including high-security environmental purposes and individual irrigation holders) other than urban, and stock and domestic use.

Victorian data include the regulated system total allocation announcements within each region. It was not possible to separate allocation announcements for different purposes such as urban, irrigation and environment, or between high-reliability and low-reliability classes of licence.

Victoria allocation announcements are shown in the source valley, even though the water was taken in a different destination valley. Therefore all entitlements in the Goulburn–Broken region have their allocation announcements shown in the Goulburn–Broken region, rather than the destination valleys of the Loddon or the Campaspe.

Victoria information included within the Goulburn–Broken allocation announcement is provision for Melbourne. No separate value was available to be disclosed.

Data source

Australian Capital Territory: Water Audit Monitoring Report 2009–10 (30 November 2010).
New South Wales: New South Wales Office of Water’s Water Accounting section.
Queensland: Water Audit Monitoring Report 2009–10 (31 January 2011).
South Australia: Water Audit Monitoring Report 2009–10 (22 February 2011).
Victoria: Water Audit Monitoring Report 2009–10 (19 January 2011).

Note: Water audit monitoring (WAM) report data are stored in the Murray–Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) HYDRO database.

Data provider

MDBA.

Method

  • WAM-supplied data are either measured, modelled or estimated.
  • New South Wales Office of Water supplied data are prepared on a water balance approach. It implies that the movement of values during the year will balance the opening and closing balances. The forfeitures and adjustments have been checked to ensure that the closing balance reconciles.

Uncertainty

WAM-sourced data does not have any uncertainty information on allocation remaining. The uncertainty of the remaining data is shown in supporting information (the table ‘Allocation announcement/claim recognition on regulated flows for other lumped holder category for Murray–Darling Basin for 2009–10’).

Approximations, assumptions, caveats/limitations

  • For South Australia, it was not possible to separate allocation remaining for different purposes such as irrigation, high-security environmental purposes, industrial and recreation. Therefore, allocation remaining was treated as ‘other lumped holder’. All other remaining line items were treated in the same manner to enable reconciliation of the line item and ensure consistency of treatment. Data were available to separate irrigation and environment for allocation announcement and allocation diversion.
  • For Victoria, it was not possible to separate allocation remaining for different purposes such as urban, irrigation and environment, or between high-reliability and low-reliability classes of licence. Therefore, allocation remaining was treated as ‘other lumped holder’. All other remaining line items were treated in the same manner to enable reconciliation of the line item and ensure consistency of treatment. Data were available to separate urban, irrigation and environment, and between high-reliability and low-reliability classes of licence for allocation announcement, allocation diversion and allocation adjustment and forfeiture.
