ACTEW Corporation has the right to extract 71,000 ML from the Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales storages. No formal allocation announcement is made within the Australian Capital Territory to extract water from the storages and the allocation announcement for the year is assumed to be equal to the allocation diversion. Therefore the allocation adjustment and forfeiture is shown as zero.

New South Wales data includes the major and local water utility class. This volume excludes the allocation forfeited for high-security town water supply, see Line item 26.1.2.4 Adjustment and forfeiture of allocation on regulated flows – high-security, urban holder.

South Australian data are included in Line item 26.1.2.4.

No information is available for Victoria; see Line item 26.1.9.7 Adjustment and forfeiture of allocation on regulated flows – other lumped holders.

Quantification approach

Data source

Australian Capital Territory: Water Audit Monitoring Report 2009–10 (30 November 2010).
New South Wales: New South Wales Office of Water’s Water Accounting section.
Queensland: Water Audit Monitoring Report 2009–10 (31 January 2011).
South Australia: Water Audit Monitoring Report 2009–10 (22 February 2011).
Victoria: Water Audit Monitoring Report 2009–10 (19 January 2011).

Note: Water audit monitoring (WAM) report data are stored in the Murray–Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) HYDRO database.

Data provider

Murray–Darling Basin Authority (MDBA).

Method

  • WAM-supplied data are either measured, modelled or estimated.
  • New South Wales Office of Water supplied data are prepared on a water balance approach. It implies that the movement of values during the year will balance the opening and closing balances. The forfeitures and adjustments have been checked to ensure that the closing balance reconciles.

Uncertainty

Uncertainty for New South Wales provided is estimated to be +/–10% (see the above table entitled ‘Adjustment and forfeiture of allocation on regulated flows for urban water access entitlement/arrangement in the Murray–Darling Basin for 2009–10’).
