Queensland water audit monitoring (WAM) 2009–10 states that carryover did not apply to any scheme in the 2008-09 or 2009–10 water years. According to Queensland WAM, allocation announcement includes both the allocation announcement during the year and the remaining water available at the end of the year. However, no information was available to separate the water available at the end of the year from the allocation announced during the year. Therefore, allocations remaining for the Warrego, Condamine–Balonne and Border Rivers regions are shown as no data available.

South Australia data are included in Line item 8.1.9.7.

Quantification approach

Data source

Australian Capital Territory: Water Audit Monitoring Report 2009–10 (30 November 2010).

New South Wales: NSW Office of Water’s Water Accounting section.

Queensland: Water Audit Monitoring Report 2009–10 (31 January 2011).

South Australia: Water Audit Monitoring Report 2009–10 (22 February 2011).

Victoria: Water Audit Monitoring Report 2009–10 (19 January 2011).

Note: WAM data are stored in the Murray–Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) HYDRO database.

Data provider

MDBA.

Method

Water sharing plans, water resource plans and the water acts within the various states specify the classes of licences that are permitted to carry forward any unused volumes and the rules attached to the volume that may be carried forward.

Allocation remaining (carryover) is as calculated by the states.

Uncertainty

  • WAM-sourced data does not have any uncertainty information on allocation remaining. For the other data uncertainty is ungraded.

Approximations, assumptions, caveats/limitations

For Queensland:

  • As the allocation announcement includes both the allocation announcement during the year and the remaining water available at the end of the year, the carryover value may be understated and the allocation announcement may be overstated.
