Reconciliations

Reconciliation of the net change in water storage to the change in net water assets
Description Volume on 30 June 2010 (ML)*
Change in net water assets (102,788)
Adjustments for:
Decrease in nonphysical water asset
7.1 Interbasin claim on water—remaining 1,825
7.15 Nonphysical water distribution system asset—other lumped 45
Surface water liability
8.1.9.7 Allocation on regulated flows remaining—other lumped holders (2,450)
Net change in water storage (103,368)

Interpretation of inputs for net change in water storage shown in the above table is provided below:

  • Change in net water asset is the difference between closing and opening net water assets for 2009–10.
  • Line item 7.1 Interbasin claim on water: remaining (1,825 ML) is the carry-over volume entitled by the Sydney Catchment Authority (SCA) from the Fish River Water Supply Scheme (FRWSS) suspended in March 2010.
  • Line item 7.15 Nonphysical water distribution system asset: other lumped (45 ML) is the carry-over volume entitled by Sydney Delta Electricity (35 ML) and Lithgow City Council (10 ML) for their water distribution system from FRWSS suspended in March 2010.
  • Line item 8.1.9.7 Allocation on regulated flows remaining: other lumped holders (2,450 ML) is the banked environmental flow released by the SCA from Woronora Reservoir during 2009–10.

Reconciliation of closing water storage to total water assets
Description Volume on 30 June 2010 (ML)
1 Connected surface water store
1.1 Storages—entitlement system 1,708,184
1.2 Unregulated channel 1,465
Subtotal—connected surface water store 1,709,649

2 Groundwater store assets
Subtotal—groundwater store – *

5 Water distribution system store
Subtotal—water distribution system store – *

Total closing water storage 1,709,649

Plus:

7 Nonphysical water asset
Subtotal—non-physical water asset 0

Total water assets 1,709,649

* Not available for 2009–10

Interpretation of inputs for total water assets on 30 June 2010 shown in the above table is provided below:

  • Line item 1.1 Storages: entitlement system (1,708,184 ML) is the volume of water held in storage reservoirs on 30 June 2010.
  • Line item 1.2 Unregulated channel (1,465 ML) is the volume of water held in unregulated channels for which volumes were estimated on 30 June 2010.
  • The groundwater asset and water within the water distribution system store within the Sydney Region were not able to be quantified with representational faithfulness (WASB 2009, p. 4). Therefore, these values are not shown and not accounted in the above table.
  • Nonphysical water assets were zero on 30 June 2010.
  • Of the total water assets that could be quantified, there was 1,709,649 ML available in the Sydney Region at 30 June 2010, down 105,238 ML from 30 June 2009.
