17.17 Decrease of inter-region claim on water

The Line item applies only to the Southern Basin of the Murray–Darling Basin (MDB) region. The volumetric value for the line item for the 2010–11 year was 765,817 ML. The value represents decreases to the required annual release (RAR) by Snowy Hydro Limited (see line item 1.5 for more details about RAR). Decreases to the RAR include repayments of Snowy water deals, reductions in RAR due to Snowy River deals and the Snowy Water Licence reduction volume agreed between parties in the 2010–11 year.

Snowy Hydro required annual release at the beginning of the Snowy Water Year (01 May) is based on the calculations in the Snowy Water Licence.

Quantification method was not available for the water audit monitoring data received for this line item.

Snowy Hydro Claim: numbers were estimated at the commencement of the water year, and subject to revision and confirmation at the end of the year.

The uncertainty estimate was not quantified.

This line item corresponds to line item 24.1 Adjustment and forfeiture on interbasin claim over water in other regions, reported in the 2010 Account. In the 2011 Account, the following change was made that caused the 2009–10 year value to be restated:

•  Improved data sets were made available after the publication of the 2010 Account. Restatement of the value published in the 2010 Account was made as the difference was material and increased the accuracy of the information provided to the users of the National Water Account.
