Murray-Darling Basin
9.2 River inflow to region

Supporting Information

Because Murray–Darling Basin (MDB) is a separate river basin, there is no river inflow from outside regions. However, there was 1,840,333 ML inflow from the Northern Basin to the Southern Basin within the region during the 2010–11 year.  The inflow was from the Barwon-Darling watercourse sustainable diversion limit (SDL) area into the Lower Darling SDL area at Menindee Lakes.

Quantification Approach

Data Source

New South Wales: water audit monitoring data received on 2 February 2011 and stored in the Murray–Darling Basin Authority HYDRO database.

Provided by

Murray–Darling Basin Authority.

Method

The line item value was based on metered discharge data and subsequent calculations. The upstream end of the Menindee Lake was the boundary for the Northern and Southern basins.

Assumptions, Limitations, Caveats and Approximations

Nil.

Uncertainty Information

Uncertainty estimate is +/– 5%.

Comparative year

For the 2010 Account, no information was provided under the relevant line item (13.2 – Connected surface water flow from upstream entity) because the MDB region was reported as a single region, within which, segments were not defined.  Inflow from the Northern Basin to the Southern Basin during the 2009–10 year was 2,431,343 ML.
