Daly
14.2 Adjustment and forfeiture of groundwater allocation – urban water system
Supporting information
The volume recognised in the water accounting statements of 3,335 ML represents the total forfeiture of water allocations for urban groundwater entitlements in the Daly region during the 2012–13 year.
The urban water supply licences relate to groundwater extraction from the Tindall aquifer for Katherine town supply.
Quantification approach
Data source
Water Resource Licensing database.
Provided by
The Department of Land Resource Management.
Method
The portion of groundwater allocation that has not been abstracted at the end of the 2011–12 year is forfeited, that is, there is no carry-over of entitlements into next year's account.
The water supply licences for Katherine town supply have a water management year that ends on 30 April. Therefore, the forfeiture reported for the urban licences are calculated as the total allocation remaining at 30 June 2012 less the total allocation extraction between 1 July 2012–30 April 2013, as shown in the following table.

Assumptions, limitations, caveats and approximations
Forfeiture is calculated based on available extraction data. Where the extraction data are estimated the forfeiture is subject to the same assumptions and limitations of the extraction data (refer to line item 18.12 Entitled extraction of allocated groundwater to urban water system).
Uncertainty information
The uncertainty estimate was not quantified.
