South East Queensland
19.11 Transfer of water outside of region
Supporting information
a. Supporting information
The volume for the line item during the 2012–13 year was 419 ML.
This line item consists of all potable, non–potable, wastewater and recycled water transferred out of the South East Queensland (SEQ) region from the urban water supply system, wastewater system, and the recycled water system.
No transfers of potable and non-potable water from the urban water supply systems in the SEQ region to outside the region occur.
The Western Corridor Recycled Water Scheme supplies high quality recycled water (purified recycled water) to the Tarong power station, located 180 km northwest of Brisbane, outside of the SEQ region. In 2012–13, SEQ water has delivered 2,156 ML of purified recycled water to the Stanwell and Tarong power stations. Out of this, 1,737 ML (Line item 19.4) was supplied to the Stanwell power station that is within the SEQ region, and the rest 419 ML was supplied to the Tarong power station.
All recycled water transferred out of the SEQ region to the Tarong power station was included in this line item.
Export | 2013 Volume (ML) |
Advanced treated (purified) recycled water to Tarong power station outside the region (via Western Corridor Recycled Water Scheme supply) | 419 |
Total SEQ region | 419 |
b. Recycled water system and advanced water treatment overview
Approximately 7% of urban water consumption (236,941 ML) came from the recycled water system and from advanced water treatment.
During the 2012–13 year, approximately 55% of the recycled water produced (23,241 ML) was supplied to urban users. Approximately 13% of the recycled water was used on-site at wastewater treatment plants throughout the region; about 20% was used in-process (recirculated), and the rest was delivered for advanced water treatment. There was some unaccounted flow in the recycled water system inflows that produced an error of (1%) of total recycled water supply system inflows. The following figure shows all the inflows and outflows associated with the recycled water system and advanced water treatment.
For more detail on a particular flow associated with the recycled water system and advanced water treatment, refer to the line item notes. Note that volumes annotated with an asterisk (*) indicate flows between sub-components and are not reported in the account. As such, these flows do not have an associated line item number.

* due to data discrepancies, it was assumed that inflow into recycled system equalled to the recycled water usage.
Quantification approach
Data source
Seqwater: the Tarong power station data from WaterHub database.

Seqwater.
Method
The volume of water transferred out of the SEQ region to the Tarong power station was obtained from the WaterHub database (meter M-086-MW).
Assumptions, limitations, caveats and approximations
Nil.
Uncertainty information
The uncertainty estimate was not quantified.
