Description

|
Abstract
|
Average monthly and annual heating and cooling degree days grids. The grids
show the heating and cooling degree day values across Australia in the form of
two-dimensional array data. The data is based on the standard 30-year period
1961-1990. See LINEAGE below for more information. |

Lineage
|
The Heating Degree Days (HDD) and Cooling Degree Days (CDD)
were based on daily temperature observations with each month having at least 25
records and no less than 15 years of data between 1961-1990
HDD and CDD are based on:
·
the average daily temperature ((maximum daily temperature +
minimum daily temperature) / 2).
·
the difference between the average temperature and the BASE
temperature. The BASE values used in this case are 12°C or 18°C for heating and
18°C or 24°C for cooling.
The gridded data were generated using the ANU (Australian
National University) 2-D Spline (surface fitting algorithm). The grid point
resolution of the data is 0.1 degrees (approximately 10km).
Approximately 350 stations were used in the analysis. All input station data underwent standard
quality control before analysis. |
|
Positional Accuracy
|
The observational (station) data on which the analyses
were based have an associated accuracy of the order of 0.01 degrees
(approximately 1km) or better.
