Rainfall and temperature records
Australia experiences a wide range of temperatures and rainfall. The highest rainfall events and the high and low temperatures for each state and the Northern Territory are given in the tables and brochures below.
See Daily Extremes for more information about daily rainfall and temperature records for each month and season.
Note: All records shown are based on data up to 30 September 2022.
Notes
- *Mount Read was affected by wind, snow and outages on several occasions during both 2016 and 2019, so the exact totals for each year are not known, but are almost certainly higher. The highest Tasmanian annual total rainfall from a manual site is 4504.1 mm at Lake Margaret Dam in 1948.
- ^The rainfall gauge at Kuri Bay overflowed between 10 and 11 January 2011. The daily, and hence monthly, total is probably higher than observed given that the gauge overflowed before the observer was able to check the final total.
