Abstract
|
The grids show rainfall variability indices across Australia in the form of
two-dimensional array data. The indices are based on the period 1900 to
2003.

Lineage
|
Rainfall variability was based on 104 years of monthly and
annual gridded data. These gridded datasets were generated using the Barnes
two-dimensional analysis. The grid point resolution of the data is 0.25 degrees
(approx 25km). All available rainfall
stations were used in the analyses, and the input station data underwent
standard quality control
Rainfall variability was calculated using the following
formula:
Rainfall variability = (90th percentile –
10th percentile) / 50th percentile. |
|
Positional Accuracy
|
The observational (station) data on which the analyses
were based have an associated accuracy of the order of 0.01 degrees
(approximately 1km) or better.
