Queensland in December 2025

Rainfall

• Rainfall totals in December were above to very much above average for northern and western parts of the state. There was a large area of highest on record for the Gulf Country, North West and Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders. It was drier for other areas, with below average rainfall for parts of the southeast and average rainfall recorded elsewhere.
• Queensland's area-averaged rainfall total in December was 139 mm, 70% above the 1961–1990 average, the tenth wettest on record for all Decembers since 1900.
• It was the wettest December in Queensland since 2010.
• Many sites had their highest December daily rainfall on record.
• Many sites had their highest total December rainfall on record.
• Many sites had their highest total December rainfall for at least 20 years.

Temperature

• Mean maximum temperatures in December were above to very much above average for the south, below to very much below average for the north west, and near average elsewhere.
• Queensland's area-averaged mean maximum temperature was 35.4 °C, 0.28 °C above the 1961–1990 average.
• Queensland had its lowest mean maximum temperature for December since 2022.
• Mean minimum temperatures in December were above average for much of the south and Peninsula, and near average elsewhere.
• Queensland's area-averaged mean minimum temperature was 22.8 °C, 0.89 °C above the 1961–1990 average.
• Queensland had its lowest mean minimum temperature for December since 2022.
• Queensland's area-averaged mean temperature was 29.1 °C, 0.58 °C above the 1961–1990 average.
• Seventeen Seventy had its hottest December day (highest daily maximum temperature) on record.
• Several sites had their coolest December day (lowest daily maximum temperature) on record.
• Seventeen Seventy had its highest December mean maximum temperature on record.
• A few sites had their lowest December mean maximum temperature on record.
