Rainfall

Statewide, the area-averaged rainfall was ranked the 17th lowest on record, based on figures since 1900. The October area-averaged rainfall figure of 8.46 mm is nearly one-third of the long term average of 25.6 mm - well below average.

Some isolated thunderstorms across the northwest at the end of the month, along with some coastal showers across the far north tropical coast on the 22nd, resulted in these areas receiving close to average falls for the month. Despite these isolated rainfall events, the remainder of the state was below average.

The wettest overall was Mt Sophia with 92.0 mm with much of the monthly total falling in one day. Mt Sophia also had the highest daily total for October, with 76.0 mm on the 23rd.

Many sites had their lowest total October rainfall on record. 

Temperature

Statewide, the area-averaged mean temperature was the 3rd highest on record for October, based on figures since 1910. The October mean temperature was 1.74 °C above the long term average of 24.66 °C.

The warmest on average was Croydon Township with 32.0 °C and the coolest on average was Applethorpe with 17.0 °C.

Croydon Township, Richmond Post Office, Logan City and Cloncurry Airport had their highest October mean temperature on record. 

Maximum temperature

Statewide, the area-averaged maximum temperature was the 2nd highest on record, based on figures since 1910.  The October mean maximum temperature was 2.38 °C above the long term mean of 31.99 °C.

The hottest day was at Birdsville Airport with 43.6 °C on the 21st and the warmest days on average were at Century Mine with 40.0 °C Logan City had its highest October temperature on record.

Ten stations had their highest October mean daily maximum temperature on record. 

Minimum temperature

Statewide, the area-averaged minimum temperature was the 10th highest on record, based on figures since 1910. The October mean minimum temperature was 1.12 °C above the long term average of 17.33 °C.

The coldest night was at Stanthorpe Leslie Parade with 0.0 °C on the 4th and the coolest nights on average were at  both Applethorpe and Stanthorpe with 9.4 °C.

Croydon Township had its warmest October night (highest daily minimum temperature) on record. Richmond Post Office, Croydon Township and Logan City had their highest October mean daily minimum temperature on record. 

Wind

The strongest wind gust was at Oakey Aero with 124 km/h on the 18th, due to severe thunderstorms passing through the southeast.
