Queensland in August 2014: Above average rainfall; cool in the west 

Rainfall during August was above average for almost all of Queensland, tending well above average in some areas. A surface trough and associated rainband tracked southeast over central and southeastern Queensland during mid-August, with widespread falls recorded over most of the southern and central interior, the southeast and along the east coast. Several sites had their highest August daily rainfall on record, including Cunnamulla and Charleville in the Warrego district. Some moderate to heavy rainfall totals were recorded in the southeast coast near the end of the month due to a complex low pressure system off the Fraser Coast. Thunderstorm activity over the greater southeast area at the end of the month produced some isolated moderate falls in the southeast.  

Cooler than average days were experienced in a large part of the western half of Queensland, especially along the Northern Territory border. Warmer than average daytime temperatures were recorded in far northern Queensland, while the remainder of the State recorded close to average maximum temperatures.

Minimum temperatures were more than 1°C above average in the southeast quarter and parts of northern and inland Queensland. Cooler than average nights were recorded in the west, with the coolest anomalies observed along the Northern Territory border. Close to average minima were observed elsewhere.
