However, some stations reported their lowest total November rainfall on record. There is a map of rainfall deciles below. The area averaged rainfall for the State was 36.27mm which is 15.46 mm drier than the 1961-90 average of 51.73mm.

Temperature

The warmest station on average (a combination of minimum and maximum temperatures) was Mildura Airport in the northwest of State with 19.3 C. The coolest on average was Mount Hotham in the alpine region with 6.4 C. The average temperature for Victoria was 15.75 C which is 0.28 C cooler than the 1961-90 average of 16.03 C and the first cool anomaly for a November since 2001.

Very much cooler than normal daytimes in the southwest

Daytime temperatures were very much cooler than usual in the South West district. They were below average in the Wimmera and inland parts of East Gippsland. Elsewhere, they were mostly close to normal. The hottest day was the 27th when Charlton recorded 38.0 C. Mildura Airport recorded the warmest days on average with 27.7 C and Mount Hotham the coolest with 10.3 C. The coldest day was the 3rd when Mount Baw Baw recorded 0.5 C. A couple of stations had their coldest November day (lowest maximum temperature) on record. Nhill Aerodrome had their lowest November mean daily maximum temperature on record. There is a map of maximum temperature anomalies below. The area averaged maximum temperature for the State was 22.49 C which is 0.08C cooler than the 1961-90 average of 22.57C.

Cool night-times in the north

Night-time temperatures were cooler than usual in the Mallee, Wimmera, Northern Country and North East districts, and inland parts of East Gippsland. Elsewhere, they were mostly close to normal. The coldest night the 4th when Mount Hotham recorded -5.6 C and Mount Hotham also recorded the coolest nights on average with 2.4 C. Gabo Island Lighthouse recorded the warmest nights on average with 12.8 C and the warmest night was the 28th when Echuca Aerodrome recorded 23.6 C. Dinner Plain (Mount Hotham Airport) and Nhill Aerodrome, a couple of stations with short histories, reported their lowest November mean daily minimum temperature on record. There is a map of minimum temperature anomalies below. The area averaged minimum temperature for the State was 9.50 C which is 0.48 C cooler than the 1961-90 average of 9.50 C.

Notes

A Monthly Climate Summary is prepared to list the main features of the weather in Victoria using the most timely and accurate information available on the date of publication; it will generally not be updated. Later information, including data that has had greater opportunity for quality control, will be presented in the Monthly Weather Review, usually published in the fourth week of the month.

This statement has been prepared based on information available at 2 pm on Monday 2 December 2013. Some checks have been made on the data, but it is possible that results will change as new information becomes available.

Averages are long-term means based on observations from all available years of record, which vary widely from site to site. They are not shown for sites with less than 10 years of record, as they cannot then be calculated reliably.
The median is sometimes more representative than the mean of long-term average rain.

The Rank indicates how rainfall this time compares with the climate record for the site, based on the decile ranking (very low rainfall is in decile 1, low in decile 2 or 3, average in decile 4 to 7, high in decile 8 or 9 and very high is in decile 10).
The Fraction of average shows how much rain has fallen this time as a percentage of the long-term mean.

The ACORN-SAT dataset is being used for temperature area averages from December 2012 onwards. The major change from earlier datasets is that the ACORN-SAT dataset commences in 1910, rather than 1950, and hence rankings are calculated using a larger set of years.
