Rainfall was generally below average during spring, with rainfall at Sydney Observatory Hill 33% below average. The rain fell over 32 days, close to normal for spring, but only 3 daysrecorded more than 10 mm (average 6 days). The most significant rainfall of the season was associated with thunderstorms and an East Coast Low between 13 and 15 October, which broke October daily rainfall records in parts of southeast Sydney.
Temperatures were well above average across the city, with Sydney Observatory Hill recording maximum temperatures 2.1 °C above average, the third-warmest spring on record (following 2013 and 2002). Minimum temperatures were also above average across the city and 1.7 °C above average at Observatory Hill.
Spring was notable for the frequency of warm days, with 13 days reaching at least 30 °C at Sydney Observatory Hill, the equal-highest on record with 1926 and triple the spring average of 4 days. Significant warm spells included 2 days above 32 °C at Observatory Hill on 29-30 September, 5 days above 30 °C in western Sydney over 23-27 October, an early-season record of 40.9 °C at Richmond on 14 November, and a record-breaking spring temperature of 45.3 °C at Richmond on 23 November. In contrast, very cold conditions were associated with the rain over 14-15 October, with 10 to 15 cm of snow in the Blue Mountains.
- Third-warmest spring maximum temperatures on record
- Equal-highest number of 30 °C days on record
- Heavy rain and snow in mid-October

Notes
A Seasonal Climate Summary is prepared to list the main features of the weather in Sydney using the most timely and accurate information available on the date of publication; it will generally not be updated. Later information, including data that has had greater opportunity for quality control, will be presented in the Monthly Weather Review, usually published in the fourth week of the month.
A Climate Summary is generally published on the first working day of each month.
This statement has been prepared based on information available at 10 am on Monday 1 December 2014. Some checks have been made on the data, but it is possible that results will change as new information becomes available.
Averages for individual sites are long-term means based on observations from
all available years of record, which vary widely from site to site.
They are not shown for sites with less than 10 years of record, as they cannot then be calculated reliably.
The median
is sometimes more representative than the
mean
of long-term average rain.
The Rank indicates how rainfall this time compares with the climate record for the site,
based on the
decile ranking
(very low rainfall is in decile 1, low in decile 2 or 3,
average in decile 4 to 7, high in decile 8 or 9
and very high is in decile 10).
The Fraction of average shows how much rain has fallen this time as a
percentage of the long-term mean.
The ACORN-SAT dataset is used for temperature area averages.
