- Some sites had their highest total summer rainfall on record or their highest total summer rainfall for at least 20 years
- Following a very dry December, a tropical low and a monsoon trough at the end of January produced moderate to heavy falls in the northern tropics, with extremely heavy falls about the north tropical to Burdekin coasts
- February rainfall was well above average across the southeastern quarter of the State, with record high February rainfall in areas of the Maranoa and Warrego
- The wettest day was at Home Hill Post Office, with 426.2 mm recorded on 28 January 2020

- It was a hot and dry start to summer in Queensland: it was warmest December on record and the second-driest December on record for the State
- January and February both had above average mean maximum and mean minimum temperatures
- There were some very hot days in December: a number of sites had their highest summer temperature on record and the hottest day during summer was at Birdsville Airport on 24 December 2019, where it reached 49.3 °C
- The late start to the monsoon onset at Darwin saw a build-up of heat in the northwest, with hot days persisting until late January, and a number of sites had their highest summer mean daily maximum temperature on record
- Overnight temperatures were warm in many locations, and some sites had their warmest summer night on record
Tropical cyclones and flooding
- Tropical cyclones Uesi and Esther were in the Australian Region in February: Uesi stayed well off the Queensland coast but generated large and powerful surf along the central to southeast coast of Queensland, and Esther made landfall as a category 1 system near the Queensland and Northern Territory border on 24 February
- Significant flood levels were recorded in numerous catchments during February most notably in the Georgina/Eyre, Logan/Albert, Condamine/Balonne and Warrego catchments
- Heavy rainfall recorded across north west Queensland in late January produced river level rises in the upper Georgina River
- Floodwaters resulting from this rainfall extended downstream across the entire month of February eventually reaching Eyre Creek in late February

Notes
The Seasonal climate summary, generally published on the first working day of each month, lists the main features of the weather in Queensland using the most timely and accurate information available on the date of publication; it will generally not be updated. More extensive discussion of significant weather events, along with later information and data that has had greater opportunity for quality control, will be presented in the Monthly Weather Review.
This statement has been prepared based on information available at 4 pm on Sunday 1 March 2020. Some checks have been made on the data, but it is possible that results will change as new information becomes available.
In some situations, some or all of the rainfall is in the form of hail or snow. In these cases the totals given are for the water equivalent: the depth of liquid water that results from melting any frozen precipitation. There can be significant 'undercatch' of snow in strong winds, meaning the true precipitation can be higher than that reported.
Averages for individual sites are long-term means based on
observations from all available years of record, which vary widely from
site to site. They are not shown for sites with less than 10 years of
record, as they cannot then be calculated reliably.
The median
is sometimes more representative than the mean
of long-term average rain.
The Rank indicates how rainfall this time compares with the
climate record for the site, based on the decile
ranking (very low rainfall is in decile 1, low in
decile 2 or 3, average in decile 4 to 7, high in decile
8 or 9 and very high is in decile 10).
The Fraction of average shows how much rain has fallen this time
as a percentage
of the long-term mean.
Where temperature area averages are mentioned, they are derived from the ACORN-SAT dataset.
