The Annual Climate Summary 2009 report is the Bureau of Meteorology's official summary of the Australian climate in 2009. It contains descriptions of Australia's rainfall and temperature patterns during the year, and documents significant weather and climate events.
The report notes that 2009 was Australia’s second warmest year on record, containing three significant heatwaves, while 2000-2009 was Australia’s warmest decade since the Bureau commenced high quality national records in 1910. Floods affected large areas of northern Australia, northeast NSW and Tasmania, while the year started with extremely dry condtions in the southeast and for parts of WA. The report also notes that it was the globe's warmest decade on record, while sea level was also at record levels in 2009.
