Rainfall and Temperature Records

Australia experiences a wide range of temperatures and rainfall. The highest rainfall events and the high and low temperatures for each state and the Northern Territory are given in the tables and brochures below.

Note: All records shown are valid as of 30 June 2017.

Notes

  • *Mount Read was affected by wind, snow and outages on several occasions during 2016, so the exact total is not known but is almost certainly higher. The highest Tasmanian annual total rainfall from a manual site is 4504.1 mm at Lake Margaret Dam in 1948.
