Rainfall Update

High weekly rainfall totals for Queensland's central and north tropical coast

  • An upper level trough enhanced by a cut-off low, impacted Queensland at the start of the week, resulting in widespread rainfall across inland and coastal areas.
  • A series of cold fronts moved across parts of western, southern and south-eastern Australia during the week.
  • Weekly rainfall totals of 25 to 50 mm were recorded in south-west Western Australia, central and northern Queensland, the interior of Northern Territory, most of Tasmania, and north-east Victoria.
  • Weekly rainfall totals of 50 to 100 mm were recorded across western Tasmania, pockets of south-west Western Australia, and the central and north tropical coast of Queensland.
  • In the north tropical coast of Queensland, there were isolated weekly rainfall totals above 150 mm.
  • The highest weekly total (at a Bureau gauge) was 223.4 mm at Tully Sugar Mill, Queensland.
  • The highest daily rainfall total during the week (at a Bureau gauge) was 107.5 mm at Mt Sophia, Queensland in the 24 hours to 9 am on 27 July.
