Ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper generated heavy rainfall in Northern Queensland
- Tropical Cyclone Jasper formed in the Coral Sea on 5 December and moved east towards the north coast of Queensland. It made landfall as a Category 2 system on 13 December near the Indigenous community of Wujal Wujal just north of Cape Tribulation.
- Tropical Cyclone Jasper was downgraded to a tropical low as it moved across the Cape York Peninsula. Over several days, it brought widespread and heavy rainfall, with daily rainfall totals ranging between 100 and 700 mm, and in some locations 5-day rainfall totals (between 13 and 18 December) exceeded 1500 mm.
- Weekly rainfall totals greater than 400 mm were recorded across the northern parts of Queensland and flood warnings were issued for catchments in the state's North Tropical Coast and Tablelands districts, including the Barron and Daintree rivers.
- Many sites across northern Queensland recorded their highest daily December rainfall on record.
- Subject to verification, the highest weekly rainfall total was 1948.8 mm at Whyanbeel Valley, Queensland and the highest daily rainfall total was 699.8 mm in the 24 hours to 9 am at on 18 December.
- Weekly rainfall totals between 50 and 100 mm were recorded in western Tasmania, northern parts of the Northern Territory and isolated pockets across central and south-eastern Queensland.
