Rainfall Update

High rainfall across northern Australia, the central east coast and western Tasmania

  • Throughout the week, thunderstorms, some severe, across northern Australia and extending south through Queensland to north-eastern New South Wales, brought localised heavy rainfall including some October daily rainfall records, and large to giant hail in the east.
  • Weekly rainfall totals of 10 to 50 mm were recorded across much of northern Australia; the south-east of Queensland; isolated parts of coastal New South Wales; and western Tasmania.
  • Weekly rainfall totals of 50 to 100 mm were recorded in pockets of northern Australia and the south-east of Queensland.
  • The highest weekly rainfall total (at a Bureau gauge) was 87.2 mm at Folesche Headland in Northern Territory, recorded on a single day, in the 24 hours to 9 am on 31 October, making it also the highest daily rainfall total in the week.
