The National Aquifer Framework was developed by Sinclair Knight Merz and the Bureau of Meteorology with significant input and direction from the following agencies:

Development of the National Groundwater Information System, including the National Aquifer Framework, has been jointly funded by the Bureau of Meteorology and the former National Water Commission. The 2022-2023 update to the National Aquifer Framework was funded as part of GA's Exploring for the Future Program National Groundwater Systems Project.
