The National Groundwater Information System (NGIS) model is based on ESRI's ArcHydro for Groundwater.
Approved forms for delivery of NGIS data to the Bureau include four versions of the ESRI geodatabase, or CSV files containing the component information.
The Administrative Instrument (224 KB) lists approved forms in the Bureau's order of preference:
- we prefer NGIS water information (regulations subcategory 2e) in the current NGIS schema version 2.3, but you may give it in any of the approved forms listed including older models (versions 2.2. 2.1 and 2.0) which will continue to be supported by the Bureau
- approved forms can be downloaded from Table 1 below
Supporting documentation
The geodatabase is the data storage and management framework for ESRI ArcGIS. The NGIS geodatabase schema uses ArcGIS 10.
NGIS supporting documentation includes the NGIS Data Diagram, the National Aquifer Framework and the NGIS Data Dictionary (1.2Mb)
- refer to these documents when constructing the NGIS geodatabase.
Vocabularies adopted for the NGIS are based on the Australian National Groundwater Data Transfer Standard
- consult this standard for a full list of terms.
